Anstett Family Book Club: How Does It Work?

Welcome family to our first organized book club!

We have been passing books around for as long as I can remember, sharing favorite authors, commenting on stories that moved us, recalling favorite books that we have read over and over.

Since we are spread throughout the states I thought this setting up a blog would be a great forum for our book club. All you need to do is sign up to follow the blog and that will allow you to comment on any post.  {I will find out how to make you an administrator if you wish to upload your own posts.}  To keep up grandma's beautiful tradition of personal correspondence in this high tech world, handwritten or typed letters would be preferred.  You can mail me your review or scan and email it and I will upload it on our blog.  I will print and mail it to grandma so she can stay connected as well.

The plan is to create a book list of 12 books, one for each month.
Since this is a tribute of sorts to Dorothy Anstett let's keep the list limited to those books you would recommend to your grandmother.  After a discussion about book clubs grandma is currently involved in and those she has been a part of in the past she prefers reads that are not heavy and I believe we can honor this.  When you respond with your book title and author please insert a little blurb as to why you chose this book.

Once we have created our list it will be posted here.  Everyone will be responsible for buying their own book every month as well as buying and shipping a copy to Grandma Dot when it is your book month. Amazon.com is a great option since they have reasonably priced new and used books and you can ship it directly to her doorstep, they will even gift wrap it if you want.

Dorothy's love of reading.

Dear Cari,

Thanks for calling this afternoon.  I really enjoyed talking to you, and I'm excited about the family book club.  I'm enclosing my review of "The Paris Wife"  I guess you are going to see that everyone else gets a copy.

You asked how I got started reading.  I was in first grade and I was one of those kids who always loved school.  I was reading at the eighth grade level in the third grade.

The first books I enjoyed were the Bobbsey Twins series.  These days I like a lot of writers ~ Nore Roberts, Jodi Piccoult, Philippa Gregory, Sandra Brown, Dorothy Garlock, & Barbara Delinsky.  As a young adult my first favorite was Kathleen Norris, which had some influence in naming your mother.  Have fun with the bees! (This comment probably needs a little back story...I was signed up for a bee class in SF with Jennifer, Tamilla & Adam but it poured so it was cancelled.)

Love, Grandma
